Historically Güzelçamlı is a good starting point for anyone interested in classical culture. Cities such as Ephesus, Miletus, Priene and Didim is located in immediate proximity. The pictures show the top of the large amphitheater at Ephesus, from which in antiquity it was possible to view the waterfront.

Güzelçamlı is a traditional Turkish town. In antiquity the city was located in the panioniske union of 12 city states. Just north of town you can see the sparse remains of the amphitheater. The city is right in the heart of the Ionian culture, with cities such as Ephesus, Miletus, Priene and Didim in the immediate vicinity. With the perfect climate, fertile valleys, water rich rivers and the abundant natural beauty against the blue Aegean Sea, it is understandable that the ions chose this coast as the center.

In 2002 the town Güzelçamlı got EU `s commissions price due to the manner to protect the national park. The park is incredibly rich in flora and fauna. But the deposition from rivers moved the coastline for miles up and the classical towns that were dependent on the ports, was abandoned in favor of other cities.
